I am the PhD candidate responsible for the sub study on intoxicants in colonial Central Africa. I will specifically focus on how intoxicating substances were produced, distributed and consumed. I obtained my bachelor’s and master’s degree in history at the VUB, and spent one semester at the Paris Lodron Universität Salzburg in Austria. During my study at the VUB I also took part in the honours’ program Talent voor Onderzoek. In 2023, I completed my master thesis on the gendered dynamics of alcohol consumption in Early Modern Bruges, based on testimonies gathered by the Witnesses project of the VUB.
My interests include cultural history, intoxicant history, discourse analysis and postcolonial theory.
